Nora Attracta Mannion.
« on: Sunday 21 October 07 13:43 BST (UK) »
Hi All,
My cousin is trying to find information on Nora. In 1942, Nora married John Hopcroft in Paddington, London.  On her marriage certificate, it states her age as 20 years, and father as Philip, a carpenter.

Nora was born in Ireland, a possible address is no1 Sligo Rd, Tubbercurry, although not sure if she was born there.

Possible siblings are. John, Philip, Michael, Thomas, and Oliver.

I have posted this in the general board, as I can't see Tubbercury listed in the child board.

Any info on Nora, or her family would be much appreciated, as my cousin has hit a brickwall.
Regards, cissellby.
Hopcroft. Aldridge. Hepton. Howard. Adolpho.
Westminster. Marylebone. Kensington. Paddington.

Hello Cissellby, There is a limit to what one can search. If Nora was 20yrs in 1942 that would make her 85yrs. She could still be alive. And may not want to be found.
I can tell you that Tubbercurry is in Sligo. Also the name Attracta in English is Margaret.
Maybe it would be an idea to write to the church to see if the family are still in Sligo. :)

Hello Leprechaun, I am the cousin whom is in search of the Mannion family.
Nora (my nan) died in 1974. I am in search of her ancestors.
However i did find a reference of my possible gggg grandparents marriage in 1838 in  Aghanagh Co Sligo.
I do have the name and  address of the parish priest and will be writing to him shortly

I have since had confirmation that there is still family living in Tubbercurry and have written to them in hope they maybe able to help.

Living in the UK makes it that much harder and being on a tight budget can't afford to subsribe to any geno sites.

Regards Tropical

Hello Tropical, I understand now. I also understand when funds are tight.
I do hope you get a reply from the family and the Parish priest.
Lets know how you get on. Lot's of Luck to you. :) Lep

Hi Tropical.  You can use the LDS for viewing film for Births, Marriages and some deaths.  See if there is one near to where you live. I have to order mine, they cost £2.70 ea.
There is also a lot of info online - you can try googling.  Don't forget  the 1901 census and Griffiths which may help.

1901 Leitrim Roscommon has a fully transcribed index for Mayo:

Griffiths Valuation which was a land valuation around 1850s has an index at :

Welcome to Rootschat but this isn't a forum for tracing living people. After you've made 3 posts you can send a PM (personal message) to cisselby to exchange recent information.

Hello Tubberval,

My name is Pam, Ollie is my gt uncle, Ollie's father Phil is my gt grandfather, and Ollie's sister Nora came to England in 1940ish. Nora is my grandmother who sadly passed away in 1974..

Would love to hear from you as we are cousins and looks like your my mothers first cousin.
I know quite a bit about the Mannion/Travers family

You will need to make another 2 posts, so we can exchange PM (private message), please reply to these posts.. But please don't place the living relatives in your posts.

I am going into hospital tomorrow for major surgery (cancer) so probably won't be around for at least a week from tomorrow.

Would love to hear from you

Pam
