hi there i was related to the penfolds?my nans sister violet used to live by the alley!sha had a son tony. also my cousins gena,deana and there brother brian who sadly past away when young.also bimbo chambers one of the last rag and bo men in mitcham,that was me nans sistera husband.does any one remmember georgy licker or black dot sarah?

Hi my Granny and Grandfather lived at number 1 New Close. Neddy and Violet Marney. My Grannys' father was Joe Ayres and the other side of my family were the Dightons, some of them are still there. I ca think of a place where I felt safer but I know a lot of outsiders were warned not to go there and a lot of people were scared of going there. Amazing people, amazing times there when I was younger. can remember a portacabin which was a sweetshop, run by two old ladies (I think one was called Dolly) I remember everyone there so fondly and although I live in Devon now whenever I go up to London I try to go to New Close. When I was younger it seemed as though I was related to almost everyone in New Close, one way or another! (Perhaps I was!) Would love to hear from anyone who remembers my grandparents. just read your message about redskin village i lived in new close i married norman ayres who lived at 2 new close with his grannie emily marney my grannie and grandad lived at 47 i lived ther from 1948 untill 196o,it was a lovely place to live everyone looked out for one another as kids we had a lovely time

I am researching the name of Dighton/Diton/etc for a friend.

He is descended from Solomon and Patience Dighton from Croydon, Mitcham Common and other places.

Hi just wondering if anyone here remembers my Nan Ethel Wood, she used to live with Albie Smith in the flat above the corner shop, last time I went there was for Albies funeral years ago.  Also whoever mentioned a Nelson...was that Nelson Smith as he was my Nanny Phoebe"s brother and they came from Mitcham.  I now live in Australia so all information would be great....thanks

I was just talking to my brother about this thread and he ask me to ask does anyone remember a pub called the Blood Tub....it was in a field in Rocky and my Nan used to manage it...thanks
