Wynne - Flintshire
« on: Saturday 27 October 07 14:39 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on the above family.   My 3 x Gt. grandfather was Charles Wynne born Gwernymynydd, Mold, Flint, Wales in 1821.   His parents were Ellis Wynne (b. circa 1790 Cilkain Wales) and Alice (Unknown).

This family is found on the 1841 Census in the township of Hendrebiffa, Flint, Wales, detailed as follows; Alice 50, Charles 20 (Lead miner), Ellis 20 (Lead miner) and Harriet 9.   Husband Ellis not listed with the family.

In 1851 Alice is found living with her daughter Elizabeth Benjamin in the Civil Parish or Township of Hendrebiffa, Ecclesiastical Parish of Gwernaffield in the County of Flintshire, Wales and was listed as a farmers widow aged 60 yrs.

Charles had two marriages 1st to Hanna Jones in 1841 and 2nd to Mary Smith in 1848.

Charles also had an older brother Stephen b.1814 who married a Margaret Lewis.

I would desperately love to go further back with this research but do not know where to begin, with regards to parish records etc. in Wales.

Any info would help.

Regards,

Yvonne.

Hello Yvonne, I'll see if I can find anything in the parish regesters, next week.
Could you give me the details you have of Charles and Stephens marriages
It might help if I find anything.

Paul.

Hi Paul,

Thanks so much for your kind offer.   Unfortunately Charles did not marry in Wales but in Liverpool.

1st Marriage - Free BMD Marriages Oct-Dec 1841
~~~~~~~~
JONES  Hannah          Liverpool  20 187
WYNNE  Charles        Liverpool  20 187
Second marriage to Mary Smith at St Nicholas, Liverpool, Lancashire, England in 1848 - Lancs.BMD Ref 2053LP/19/416.
That is why I was thinking more along the lines of a Christening record for him (Born  Gwernymynydd, Mold, Flint,  Wales in 1821) in the hopes of finding his mother's maiden name.    I seem to have got into a muddle with regards brother Stephen but below are two of Charles' confirmed siblings.  Birth info for Charles is from Census documents - cannot find him on the IGI.
ELLIS WYNNE Christening:  22 SEP 1819   Mold, Flint, Wales
Parents: Father: ELLIS WYNNE Mother:  ALICE
ELIZABETH WYNNE  Christening:  09 SEP 1826   Mold, Flint, Wales
Parents: Father:  ELLIS WYNNE  Mother:  ALICE
Source Information:
 Batch No.:  Dates:  Source Call No.:  Type:  Printout Call No.:  Type:
 C056651  1817 - 1834  0104814   Film  0883835
According to 1851 Census info, Elizabeth was married to William Benjamin and found in their home at the time of the census were her mother Alice Wynne and her niece Elizabeth Wynne d.o. of her bro. Charles.
Once again, many thanks.
Regards,
Yvonne
Hi Yvonne
I have just seen this thread following my return from holiday.
Ellis Wynne is my 3 x gt gf. His daughter Elizabeth who married William Benjamin is my 2 x gt gm. I have a load of detail for that family but can also add a little for you. Ellis Wynne (of Hendrebiffa) died aged 50 on the 1st May 1831. I also have a copy of Elizabeth's marriage in 1847 and Ellis although he had died some 16 years previosly is described as a miner. Charles Wynne was a witness (signed with an X).
Alice shows as being born in Chester in the 1851 census you mention. I could not see the marriage in Flintshire when I looked sometime ago but there is a marriage on IGI which is a possibility on 25 Aug 1806 at St Johns, Chester between an Ellis Wynn (no e) and Alice Evans. This would make Alice only about 15/16. I have not followed this up and if Paul cannot find anything it may be worth posting on the Cheshire site.
There are 2 possible deaths for Alice (looking at Free BMD) and these are Mar 1855 and Jun 1858.
Hope this helps
Hi Paul
I suppose we should wait for Yvonne's response but Alice's death would probably interest both of us if you have a chance to look (if the records go that far forward). More importantly I could not actually find Ellis's birth (approx 1781) but as he does not appear in a census I do not know if he was actually born in the area. The marriage if it is the one in Chester may of course help.
Thanks.
