I was hoping to find Mary Pearce's father as a witness to her marriage. Saw her occupation ran a search this came up. Thought I would mention as obviously Edwin Nance was a friend to them. No I do not think this is correct as incorrect spelling of Pearse and four years before she was born. But thanks

Witnesses to a marriage don't have to be related to the happy couple?! Or even linked to them :-\
He may have been a church warden? Or a friend? or simply a passer-by!

I should also point out that it would be the clergyman who wrote the names - and would have written what he thought it should be spelled?!

Spellings of names wasn't a big thing in the 19th Century.
