i would like to find my gran alice maud atwell/attwell, she was born 1877/9. dont know were she was born only what it says on the 1901 census which was  marylebone, she used the 24 feb as her birthday,  she married archibald goodall in st johns church holborn on 6 sept 1896, and they lived at 56 red lion st holborn according to the wed cert.  her father was edward douglas atwell  [as he signed] commision agent  and she signed the cert attwell, on the bmd site there a two entries for alice one as atwell and one as attwell,  i know she DOES NOT come from tipton    , dudley because that alice father died 4 yrs before my one got married and the tipton alice 1901 was a servant in edgebaston and mine was married with 2 children i have her second wed cert when she was 50yrs and her deathcert in 1959 age 80 but cannt find her birth

Thought this was her fathers death, but you say he signed her marriage cert in 1896?  :-\ -

Have you seen the 40 year old Edward Atwell - an 'Agent', in Windsor Road, Ealing in the 1881 census ?

He is described as a visitor, unmarried, born in Middx.

Did he sign as a witness, or is his name in the space provided for Father's details ?

Quite a coincidence to have that exact fairly unusual name ?

he signed as a witness, and yes i have seen that one but it poses the question whos her mum and why is he on the wed cert if hes unmarried

i think we have had this look up request before and nothing came of it i.e Maud or ALice At/twell, (all combos)

have you considered this one:~

Female Attwell Q1 1877 Windsor 2c 448

(right area well London not Staffs. right qtr)

or there was this one:~

(wrong atrea and qtr)

The Edward that Catone found is in Tottenham Street ... Pancras District in 1891
