These are the earlier census I referred to :

1851 census, York St., Byker,
Alexander Burrell, Head, age 62, Cartman, born Long Row, Co. Durham,
Elizabeth Burrell, Wife, age 59, born Barlow, Co. Durham,

1841 census, Byker Bay,
Alexander Burrell, age 50, Cartman,
Elizabeth Burrell, age 45,
Thomas Burrell, age 20, Ropemaker,
Hannah Burrell, age 17,
Alexander Burrell, age 13, Cartman,
Joseph Burrell, age 5.
All are given as "Y" for born in Northumberland, but its surely them.

Alan.

Northumberland - Smith, Willis,
Durham - Rogerson, Child
Cumberland - Irving, Hill
North Yorkshire - Layfield,
Ireland - Collins

Hi
According to the online index of Newcastle marriages, Hannah BURRELL married Charles MOORE at All Saints in 1845. If Hannah's husband was Charles, where does the name John MOORE come from?

Oh Pants....

Well , on the 1851 census , Hannah age 29 is living with her three sons , William Thomas and Charles. Hmm theres the name Charles! It states that she is a mariners wife.

On the 1841 census , there is a Hannah and Jno Moore both aged 20 , living in All saints parish with no kids. I presumed that to be her but now you mention it the 1851 and 1871 census for her and the kids are both for Byker Parish.

What should I do now? Try for her death cert to get the husbands name? She died a widow but her Husband would still be on it wouldnt he?

Hi
At this stage I wouldn't worry about Hannah's death certificate as it may have no reference to her husband. English death certificates are unfortunately nowhere near as informative as a Scottish one.

Since you have Hannah's maiden name, Burrell, from her mother in the 1861 census, and Hannah is still at home in the 1841 census as Wolfiesmith says then that rules out the Hannah & John Moore that you refer to in your first message.

Unlike FreeBMD, the Newcastle Government website has spouse details which confirm that a Hannah Burrell married Charles Moore in Newcastle in 1845.

One way to confirm Hannah's husbands name would be to either get a copy of Thomas's marriage certificate
