West Family - Cooldrumman-Drumcliff
« on: Sunday 04 November 07 02:30 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information about the family of my ancestor Abraham George Netherville WEST, born 1857 Cooldrumman Sligo. Parents are George Thomas WEST (farmer) and Catherine (probably NETHERVILLE).

Would like to make contact with other WEST researchers - since first posting have found out that there were at least five children: Thomas, Catherine Louisa, Abraham George Netherville, Deborah & Dinah Lloyd WEST.

Other families associated with them: Catherine married Samuel LINDSAY (1855-1888) & Young WARREN (1865-1933), Catherine's daughter Annie Louisa married Thomas GREGG (1867-1936). Thomas had two sons: William Maxwell (1890) & Arthur (1892)

Abraham George married Sarah Ann BREATHWAITE (from Dublin) and had a son Arthur in Sligo. The family left Ireland in 1884 for Australia.

If anyone has connections to any of these families I would appreciate if you make contact.
Thanks for any more leads.

I am looking for information about my ancestor Abraham George Netherville WEST, born c1860 Sligo (not sure where). Parents are George WEST (farmer) and Catherine NETHERVILLE.
Where can I find a birth record for him and possible siblings?

Civil registration of births in Ireland began 1864 but quite a few early births were never registered. For earlier dates you need to look for church records (if they still exist).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Christopher,
I think the families would have been protestant, at least that is what information they were giving on immigration records and they were buried in the Church of England Section at the cemetery in Melbourne.

You mention a West - Warren connection:-

Francis Warren of Ardtrasna (Drumcliffe), Sligo was born 1746 and married Jane West.
This couple had four sons, George, John, William and Francis.

George married Rebecca Young in 1817 and had a large family.  Three of their sons in turn named their sons Young Warren.

Cheers

Is it possible that this West family is the same of Francis West b1715, England - immigrated to Pennsylvania 1754, married Mary Wynn of Sligo -- this family is reported in the Biography of Dr William A West as being from Ireland, went to England, and then on to USA.
