Hi just started looking for my ex hubby's family tree! my daughter has found they  might of had a Sir Thomas Yates in there so now after 25 years she is interested ::)Found the family in the Wirral 1881 census(Egremont Cheshire) well we think its them, but the name has been mistranscribed as Mates.
Any clues on the William Yates b Lancs 1851?
Look forward to hearing from you

Hi all,
Thanks for the replies, sorry but I haven't been doing much on here lately had a round of decorating etc.
David, in the next couple of weeks when I can find everything  ;D I hope to start looking at the family tree again, really not so sure were the Yates I am looking for originated from.
My ex mum in law died some weeks ago (she was the Yates by marriage) so the daughter (apart from double barreling her surname to Bagley-Yates ???) has not done any more looking into her Yates bit of the tree as there has been a bit of strife in the family after her Nan's death.
Hopefully when things have calmed down she may take an interest again and I shall be back with some more info.

Thanks for your prompt reply Toady (!) I look forward to hearing from you especially if your double barrelled name was originally Bailey-Yates ????
Best wishes,
David

Hi Emmi,

Thomas Yates, Railway Street, (Lisnagarvy) Blaris, Antrim is listed in the Griffiths Valuation of Co. Antrim 1861-2 on John Hayes failteromhat.com website.

In 1912 thirteen Belfast people, seven Co. Londonderry people, one Armagh person, one Lanarkshire person and one Manchester person bearing the Yates surname signed the Ulster Covenant.

Hello toad, DJH and Christopher,

Sorry it's been so long but I got back here at last.
This is for my husbands family tree and he knows little about his living relatives, never mind past ones, so it's a bit like wading through treacle.
I've found some Yates in Besses On the Barn, Lancs so I'm checking them out

Best Wishes,
Emmi
