Hi Toni,

Many thanks for your message.

At the ESRO I have so far been back to the 1830's via the maps there.

I have two very strong candidates for the ownership before that date but cannot yet determine which one owned the wood.

I have looked at the land tax records but not the electoral roll.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Regards,

Ian

Hi ,
My Grandfather was Thomas Smith(Morfey)from Rye Sussex, he joined the army as Morfey but went AWOL and joined the Navy as Smith and stationed in Devenport ,he was a stoker on HMS Benbow and when docked in Greenock Scotland he met my future G/Mother Annie Hunter Barrie .He left the navy and joined the coastguard on the Isle of Wight and the had 5 children ,Thomas died in 1952 at my mothers house in Playden ,Sussex.

I have more Morfey(Leadbetter) family history going back as far as  Elijah Morfey born 1803 from the Playden /Peasmarsh /Rye area if anyone would like it .

I am new to this so don t know how people privately contact each other with Information.?
