Yeah I know.  It closed down soon after WW2.    He carried a 'slate' for so many of the Whitchurch folk, who never paid of their debts.
He wasn't bothered apparently, as he knew without husbands/jobs etc, that it would be unfair to chase them up.

My Cousin still lives there, and has a box full of those bills and debts.

It didn't close because of the debts, he just retired from it all.  Age caught up with him, so he took it easy in later years.

Welcome to Whitchurch from me too Michelle.

My Grt Grandfather Charles Dwight may well have driven the Doctor to visit some of your ancestors, he was the Doctors coachman. I think he also upset the local vicar as he married my Grt Grandmother's sister after she died. Not the done thing & they had to go to London for the marriage. ;)

My ancestor Sarah Rickard born  1766 was the daughter of John Rickard & Mary Sharp. John and Mary moved to Hoggeston and then Dinton. Michelle

My GG grandfather, John Parrott lived and died in Whitchurch (born next door in Oving).  His son Joseph married Ann Nash, who had a daughter, Mary Ann NASH (bb) who married Joseph Rickard.  Not direct ancestors - my GG aunt and uncle if John P was Mary Ann's father.

Maddie,

We really are cousins!  My GG Grandfather was Charles Dwight too, his son David was my G Grandfather!

They did indeed go to London for the marriage and after that were Methodists!

Hi Everyone-just joined- Whitchurch is the home of my father`s family-the Kibbles-I have tracrd them back to mid 16th century-some were churchwardens and one of them-Francis who died 1699 has his name carved on the church rafters. My 3 times gr grandfather was Thomas Kibble, born whichurch 1832 and his mother was Ann Rickard, born 1788. Does anyone know of other Kibbles in the village who may be related to Thomas as he left for London in the 1850s. I also have other Rickards on my tree and Toogoods.

Hi Lindsay, welcome to Roots.
Looks like this is becoming a gathering of the Rickard clan. Brilliant.
How interesting to have your Kibble ancestor's name in the church rafters.
