Hello Barbara,

Sorry for my late reply, i have only just got in from work.

The only one i didn't save is my grandmother, but i do have the death index entry saved on my computer i think..lol

I did order their marriage cert last night online, hopefully that will tell me how old my grandmother was when she married, i am hoping that will tally up with her birth of what you posted yesterday.

Many many thanks for your help yesterday and everyone else who helped.

I will post back when i have the marriage cert

Pam

Hello Pam

Look forward to hearing from you when the certificate arrives.  We can then help search for census entries.

An update :-)

I have received the marriage certificate of my grandparents
Francis William F Brooks and Gladys Ellen Brooks/Blackman

I have also received Birth and Death cert of my grandmother
Gladys Ellen Stone/Brooks
I am awaiting for the arrival of my Grandfather's Birth cert

It is now getting a bit complicated..lol my nan's Mother married twice Stone being the later of the 2. And had children in both marriages.

My nan's mother (my great grandmother) name is
Rose Brotherton (maiden name) her first married name was Marks then Stone.

My great grandmother had 2 children with Mr Marks

Walter R Marks & Phyllis Marks
I may have found Walter R Marks Birth in the BMD index and think the year is poss 1901 and district Kensington

As you do you go back or forward some years and check the BMD indexes.
At the moment i am not having much luck with my g grandmother's marriage to
Charles Stone my grandmothers Father.
My grandmother was born 23rd Aug 1911, at 213 cambridge road and would presume that is in Willesden London.

On the up i have possibly found my grandfather's parents marriage index and his name is Arthur William Brooks.

I hope you can understand what i have just typed ...lol

Many thanks in advance for any help with the above

Pam

Hello Pam

I think you have lost me  ;D

Part of the trouble, I think, is that we lost quite a few posts on this thread.

So.......

You have the marriage certificate for the 1956 marriage between Francis and Gladys.

Gladys' maiden name was Stone and former married name Blackman.

Gladys birth certificate (1911) shows her parents as Charles Stone and Rose nee Brotherton.

Rose was married first to a Mr Marks.

Is that right?

I have found a marriage for a Rosaline Brotherton to Alfred Pearce Marks in 1894 in Bethnal Green.
They both appear on the census in 1901 in Shoreditch with 3 children and Alfred dies in Jun 1901

Deaths Jun 1901
Marks  Alfred Pearce  39  Islington  1b 163

But ....how do you know about Mr Marks Pam?

Hi Barbara,

I've lost myself along the way too   ;D

Yes we did lose some posts on this thread.

You are right Barbara ;D

On the marriage (1956) certificate of Francis & Gladys. The fathers names on the marriage cert is

Arthur William Brooks (deceased)
Charles Stone (deceased)

Rose Brotherton did marry to Mr Marks first.

I've just re-checked Glady's death certificate (1979) and it say's she was born in Arundel, Sussex. But on her birth certificate her birth was registered in Willesden-Middlesex on 28th Sept 1911, 25 days after she was born.

I would presume that Rose married Charles Stone in Sussex and the same as
Mr Marks going by Gladys death certificate. But who knows .. My uncle may have been wrong where Gladys was born as he signed Gladys's death certificate.

Now i am totally confused ???

Hi Pam

There is a Walter R amongst the childen of Rosaline and Albert Marks in the 1901 census. Unfortunately no birth place is given for Rosaline.

I cannot find a marriage for a Rose/Rosaline or variants to a Charles Stone.

There is this birth
Births Jun 1914
STONE  Sydney  Brotherton  Willesden  3a 635

Barbara

Edit  In the 1901 census the husband's name is Alfred not Albert - sorry  :-[
Joy, Larkin, Twort, Baker, Whibley - Brenchley and Horsmonden area Kent
Fewell and Speller - Essex and London
Headington and Bateman - London
Feltwell - Norfolk and London
Lewin - India and NZ
Evan-Thomas - Wales and London

Hi Barbara,

Thank you for your help, i am sorry i did not get back to you, i had to rush away as my dad got rushed to hospital, thankfully he is back home now.

Anyway, before rushing off with a 2 hour drive to my parents i did find an entry in the marriage index for a Charles Stone and a Rose Marks/Brotherton in 1901 Q Oct.

I have written down all the information you have given me and have passed the information onto my dad, i just need to await on his answer of what he wants me to do .. :)

Again thanks you so much for your help, it is so much appreciated

Pam
