Hi
Yes you are right Richard & Eliza left England 1 October 1842 and arrived in NZ e Feb 1843
they sailed on the ship Indus and 1st settled at Riwaka, Nelson, Washington Valley in a mud hut, then they later went to Motueka, Nelson, Riwaka, Surveyors Huts near Pa Point.
I have letters here written by Eliza to her son Cornelius when they were at Ivy Farm, Riwaka, Motueka, Nelson. Also have Richards & Eliza Marriage cert & death certs.

Best wishes
Kay
Also a Holyoake by birth.

I have a little bit of HOLYOAKE information if you're interested, not a HOLYOAKE descendant myself but some of them married into my husband's GIBBS family.

Don't want to post it here as some of them may be still living. I'm still new here so not sure how we make contact - let me know if you're interested!

Hi Helen,

They're great links - I had no idea my husband's relative had such a distinguished career. Sir Keith was a 3rd cousin of my husband's grandfather!

Thanks very much!

Cheers

Karen.

Hullo Karen - I had a Steven Holyoake in my class at school - he said he was a cousin of Keith Holyoake as well...Good to see that people are working hard on their family trees.
