Court of Chancery- Sale of Property
« on: Tuesday 20 November 07 11:35 GMT (UK) »
I have found a notice in the Times, 24 May 1834, advertising the sale of property in Eltham that had belonged to Richard Lewin, one of my husband's ancestors.
Richard had died on 7 June 1832 and his will required that all his property be sold within 3 years of his death.  His will was proved on 2 November 1832. I was not therefore surprised at the sale but the advertisement states that property is

"To be peremptorily sold pursuant to an Order of the High Court of Chancery made in a cause "Lewin v Lewin"

So, should I asume from this that there had been some dispute about the will?
Can anyone tell me where I can find out more about the case?

Any help on this would be much appreciated as it is totally new territory for me.  :)

Thank you again CatOne - what a lot of Lewin v Lewin cases!  Maybe because some of the Lewin family were barristers?

I think I have found an entry of particular interest in 1834 Lewin v Reade.  These were the names of the 2 surviving executors of Richards will.

I think I will now need to find out about Court of Chancery proceedings - my current knowledge is nil  ??? and decide whether the papers are worth seeing.
