Not sure if I can answer your query, but in the course of my research of the Longstaff family of Bishop Auckland,I determined that John Longstaff b1810 married 13 Jun 1835 Mary Todd.I believe her to be the second daughter of Christopher Todd (1782-1847) and Anne Apedaile.Christopher was "a native of Nutty Hag" a farm near Byers Green.John L,Mary T and family eventually settled in Australia.

I the course of my research,I found that the Children of Christopher Todd and Sarah Willey were:Johnathan b1779 Byers Green,Robert b1780,Christopher b1782 Byers Green d1847 = Ann Apedaile b1779d1838,Thomas b1783 Byers Green = (1) Mary Bradley & (2) Catherine Longstaff,William b1785 Byers Green,Michael b1788 Byers Green.

There is quite a story which I can relate concerning Christopher Todd b1817.He was a son of Thomas Todd and Mary Bradley.
He was a blacksmith who became a cancer doctor.

However none of this helps you find the wife of Phillip.
It seems Christopher was a common name within the Todd family.
Wyatt and Wood of Glossop, Derbyshire. Longstaff of Bishop Auckland,Durham. Harry of St Austell and St Kew,Cornwall. Charters of County Antrim.Knight of Warwickshire.Hendy of Ballyedmonduff.

Hi,
My great great great grandfather was Christopher TODD b1817, the Cancer Doctor, there is an advertisement in the Newcastle Courant on the 12 April 1850
where he declares his cures, he died on his way to Gateshead  to sell his cure and that is all i know of him.

Hi RYTONLAD, ;D

Seems we are related, at least a little while back. I dont know how far you have managed to go back in your lines but I would like to compare notes and maybe we can help each other.  ;)

Hi Neil,
My Grandfather is Joseph Melville b. 1904 in County Durham, he had Nine or Ten
Brother's and Sister's, a fact unknown to me till recently, the reason for which i am unaware, as i regularly stayed with my Grandparents. My Grandmother came from the Chapman side of the Family
Regards Jack

My maternal line of research is the surname of TODD, mainly around Byers Green, Durham, but getting ever further afield as the branches continue to grow. I've been researching my family history now for more than ten years and a chap already mentioned, Christopher TODD b1818, was my great great grandfather. It was myself who discovered how this Christopher, who looks likely to have had no formal education, started out a blacksmith but ended up a 'cancer doctor'. It is also worth mentioning that Christopher was not the only TODD ancestor proclaiming to be a 'doctor'!

I am familiar with the dilemma of trying to reconcile what appears to be at least two TODD families in the Byers Green area, possibly three! There was a TODD family living at a farmstead called Nutty Hagg and I still have not managed to find the link which shows that the TODD's living there were related to my TODD ancestors. I am optimistic that there is some connection or common ancestor, but proving it has been difficult. At the present time, all I have been able to prove is that they were close geographically and no more.

I'm happy to hear from anyone who wants to swap notes about the above TODDs or the other branches of the family with whom they connect.
