Hi

Welcome to rootschat.  Do you have any idea of Albert's parents names or Albert's marriage certificate which should give his father's name and other details which may help locate him in the 1901 census?

Have you any idea where Albert was born?

Any known brothers/sisters etc. names/ages

Best wishes

Thanks for the replys...... I'm afraid i have little information on Albert other than what i have already given. One correction is that he died on 21/02/1944. Family members think he was born Brighton or Bognor Regis?

If he was 47 when he died, that makes him 5 ish in 1901? so I'm afraid Iria it's probably not him

thanks again

Hi

It might be a good idea to try and look for Albert's marriage first which will then, hopefully, give his father's name and maybe some other small little detail which may help in the search for his origins to ensure that you are on the right track.

Assuming that Albert and Lily did actually marry, it shouldn't be too difficult.

If you are unable to search the bmd indexes in London or at your local county record office (if they have them), then they can be searched online on the following pay per view site:

http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/

If you know where Albert was living when he died, might it be possible to arrange a search of the local newspaper to see if there was an obituary/funeral report if he was well known in the area.  They were often quite full in those days and mentioned everybody attending and sending wreaths with relationships usually given.

Best wishes

Lily Adelaide Brown is my Grandmothers Aunt. Ivy was my great grandmother. I would love any information you have on this family.
I will ask my grandmother about Albert, and see what she knows. and let you know!

Back to basics
Lily & Albert married in Croydon in the June 1/4 of 1924. If you have a copy of that m cert from the GRO (ref Croydon 2a 902) it should name Albert's father and give both their occupations. That should help you find the family on the 1911 census.
They apparently had daughters born in Croydon in 1924 & 1828 and sons in 1925 & 1926.

Going roughly by the age and place of birth you have given, would your Albert have been an Albert John V Field born Brighton in the September 1/4 of 1896? If so, you can apply to the GRO for a copy of his birth cert using the reference Brighton 2b 220

Also, I am pasting in a piece from my own Brighton ROOK family history just in case it eventually fits into your Field research. The only name in common that I can see at the moment is that of an Ivy Field.
