Hi Ron
My name is John Flett Carpenter and my Fletts arrived in Williamstown, Victoria, Australia, in the 1850's, from Harray, Orkney, and I have just spent a week in Orkney taking photos of all the old houses - Furso, Garth, etc. I can trace my family back to Thorkel Flett in the 12th century, with quite a few gaps, but can go back directly to Robert Flett of Bea, who passed on the mill of Russland to 2 of his 7 sons, and which enables me , through sasines, etc to make the connection. I will gladly swap gedcoms with you. I currently am living and worlking in Saudi Arabia but will be going home to Melbourne to visit my Mum, the last of the Fletts in Williamstown, from 18 december to 27th December. My email address is *
Regards
John FLETT Carpenter

My grandfather was Thomas Peter Flett, who came from around the Gunnedah distict.

My GGGGF was Nichol Flett, born c1785 and married Ann Loutit in Co Harray, Orkney, 20/1/1785 according to family. My question: who were his parents and his grand parents? Anyone know? Im tracing our Australian Flett family roots back and would be very grateful for any help.

Hi my great grandfather was Peter Spence Flett (born 1853) in Orkney. He migrated to New South Wales, Australia and married Ida Margaret Allen and they had two children, Ada and Nellie. Ada married Walter Coe, who had 10 children (one of which was my father, Mervyn). I would like to know if Nichol and Jean were Peter's parents and where they are buried.

Hi & welcome to Rootschat  ;)

It may be an idea to include dates/places of events for your names to enable others to relate to & listing the details for those 10 children may help?

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
