It looks like it could be a 2nd Boer War bicycle unit http://rapidttp.com/milhist/vol041dm.html.

I was intrigued by the rifle clipped to the bicycle on the right . You would think a weapon of that size and weight would be a bit awkward to have clipped to one's bicycle frame. The weapon clipped to the left hand bike is a more suitable carbine .

Thank-you
2 bikes per 27 men is odd for a bike corps, but i take your word for it!!
Do you know whether a bike unit and "the Sharpshooters" are compatable??
thanks for the link, very interesting.

They could well be signalling flags.

Sally is it possible to get a close up of any of the collar or sleeve badges?

A pre 1908 militia.

The colours are grey with ?blue facings

As to the exact regt I'm afraid I know not.

The Territorial Force was fromed from the local county militias in 1908, and uniforms such as this went out around then. Although the Ulster Young Citizen Volunteers paraded in uniforms with these colourings early in WW1...

Sally,
Can we have a close up of another part as well?
I think I can see a couple of them wearing medals. May help date the photo  :)
