I have started looking into this again. I am still struggling to find a record of George Godfrey and Mary Courtney's marriage. As mentioned before there are a few marriages of a Mary Courtney between 1861 and 1863 in Barnstaple but no husband present. I think I'll have to order the certificates. Is there any alternative? What do you think? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
