. According to my records William was born in 1803 in North Curry, Somerset and died on 23 December 1858, aged 55, in North Curry. If Christopher Spiller married Ann Sweeting on 19 December 1805, how can they be William's parents?

According to the 1851 census, William is b c 1805. The person who registered his death may not have known his exact DOB .....

Hi Deb USA,

Many thanks for your help. I have sent off for the Death Certificate of William and Charlotte's daughter, Elizabeth, as you suggested, and hope that it will reveal Charlotte's maiden name. Thanks again.

Millymollymandy  :) :)

Hi again Deb USA,

Not sure about Ann Leakey. She is a bit of a mystery.

I reckon your theory about John Spiller being William's brother is correct. I have looked back through my papers and I had also made a note to that effect. I think John was probably staying with William and Charlotte and their family on the 1841 Census for Wrantage, North Curry, to help on the land, while his wife Julia, whose occupation was 'innholder' on that Census, stayed on to run the inn.

Hi everyone, yes it's me again,

Thanks to Deb USA for the information about Susannah Hardy christened in March 1740 in Membury.

I wonder if anyone can tell me when Christopher, her husband, was born or christened, also whether anyone can tell me the names of his parents?

Many thanks.

Milly.
