Thanks for the replies. It looks like things have certainly moved on since your time in the town Lizzie as I've never had any experiences like you described. Either that or you were particularly unlucky. I'm sure you're right in saying that the trend for people around more in the intervening years has changed things but that's in common with many other places I imagine. From my own perspective I know many, many people who've lived in the town all their lives and they've been some of the most welcoming.

Anyway, back to the resources topic, if anyone wants any help with some aspect of history from the town I'd be happy to help if I can. Andy

I'm from Brooklyn, NY but my maternal G3Grandfather was born in Dursley ( Henry Hignell).  What  beautiful photographs--Dursley is definitely on my 'bucket list' if I win the AARP genealogy contest.
