Two hundred pages, more than a quarter of Sir Charles James Jackson's publication, "English Goldsmiths and their Marks",which was published in 1921, were devoted to Dublin and Irish goldsmiths. This is easily understood when you see the book's full title ... "English Goldsmiths & their Marks: A History of the Goldsmiths and Plate Workers of England, Scotland and Ireland."

A history and examples of the apprenticeship undertaken by goldsmiths is given until the point at which the apprentice produced his 'master-piece' at which point he was elevated within the Guild to the rank of quarter or foreign-brother.

Many thanks for info, I have ordered this book.

My GG Grandfather was a Jeweler in Limerick and  hopefully this book will trace him.
