Mine started well and then continually dropped out. I finally discovered it was not compatible with my internet service provider. Strangely it didn't actually say that on the box when I purchased it and I didn't realise that could be a problem. Have you checked with your service provider help line?

Regards

Thanks for the replies and various suggestions.

I think the fact that the router is set on default channel 11 will probably be the cause - I need to find the documentation in the loft before I can change it though, as the password is about 13 characters long!

There was a prob with a specific Belkin router, but not mine.  I did download a patch when this first happened a few days ago (firmware, whatever that is?!?) but it hasn't fixed it.

I seldom look to see what networks are in range but I seem to recall there were only a couple when we first set up ours - now it is nine!

And yes, I have tried standing over the router hovering the lappy without any improvment!

No other changes have taken place except that Pipex upgraded us to faster broadband recently - wonder if it could be that?!?

Thanks again, Arranroots (from work at lunchtime!!)

Dont know if you got your problem sorted out.  I did read on another forum of problems people were having with dropped connections on their routers caused by, believe it or not, Christmas lights.  Especially the ones which people string around their houses.

Just a thought.  Problem might go away in the new year.

Seasons Greetings and a healthy 2008.

I sometimes use my laptop on the desk right alongside the router, the WiFi connection usually keeps dropping out when I do that so I turn it off and rely completely on the RJ45.

I am still dropping out!

Problem started before the Christmas decs went up, so don't think it is that.

I haven't changed anything - my McAfee expired just before but that shouldn't affect anything should it?

Still waiting for OH to get the instructions out of the loft ...

 :-\ ;D

Thanks for your suggestions - I see RootsChat is advertising a wi-fi link - maybe I should click?!?

If you tell us the make and model of your router, perhaps we can google the instructions to change the channel - save going up into the loft. The makers support pages should have the manual and instructions - so long as you know your username and password  :o;D

Thanks Jane - the maker's website tells how to change the channel but I am too cowardly to do it without finding the password - which of course I haven't written on the packaging and put into the loft - cos that wouldn't be secure ...

Thought I'd put my query on this thread rather than start another.

I have a BT Homehub with up to 3 PCs linked to it wirelessly (Belkin) . Everything was working fine until about a fortnight ago. Now mine(furtherest away from the hub) doesn't seem to connect automatically when I switch on. I have to do a Repair - sometimes a couple of times - before it connects.

It's fine after I get it connected - no drops!

Any ideas, please?
