Thank you all for your help and input.

Before my first post  I knew that Riddell Robson was baptised in 1783 at Newburn  and that his father died at Whorlton. I had found that he had died in 1867, obtained the Death Certificate and found that he had died at Whorlton and was 'a 'Landed Proprietor' - which was news but probably ties in with his being a builder and the details available from various on'line archive indexes.  Judy pointed me to his marriage in 1814 at St. John church in Newcastle to Ann Nelson

Census returns turned up a probable son also Riddell.  He chrstened a daughter with the names Ann Nelson and another daughter was christened Sarah who married a Thomas Bell.  I had been told many years ago that Riddell senr' had a son Riddell who had a daughter who had married a Bell and 'therefore gone distincthly up in the wotld'

But I cannot find a baptism for young Riddell as anticipated in 1816/17 in Newcastle according to Census returns.

Many thanks again
Regards

As yet none, Michael.   There seem so many to choose from  :)

My immediate thought would be St.  John but I see from Genuki that there do not appear to be baptism transcription for the parish of St. John after 1812.

I plan on getting the fiche(s) for Newburn events but  am unlikely to find it there.  Riddell Senr. I think had another child (Robert) born in Whorlton so the Newburn records may help there.  I have other Robsons to look at as well - - - - but none in Newcastle  :)

Hi Reiver

have you seen the baptisms of two daughters of Riddell and Ann on the IGI?

Anna Robson born 7th August 1815, baptized 10th Aug 1815, at St Andrew's RC church, Newcastle

Joan Riddell Robson bap 1st November 1816 at Newcastle (no church named)

If they were Roman Catholics, that might give you a clue where to look for the younger Riddell.

Judy  ;)
Best wishes, Judy :-))

No, I had nor seen those Judy.   Thank you.
Since you pointed me to the Riddell / Ann Hunter marriage the other day I hadn't looked at the IGI.

Riddell and Ann Hunter married  at St John which is a CofE church.  I'm pretty certain that Riddell was not Roman Catholic so it would appear that Ann was and wanted her first daughter to be baptised in her own faith.  The Joan Riddell baptism you mentioned?   Could it be submitted?  There is no mention of a church as you pointed out and yet it appears in a file of some sort.

I'm trying to see whether Riddell senior left a will.  That may tie up some loose ends.  I'll let you all know,

Best wishes to everybody

Hi Reiver

Yes, I thought it strange about the RC marriage. Looking on Google I see that there is a St Andrew's RC church in Newcastle,

http://www.st-andrews-worswick.org.uk/

but also an older St Andrew's Anglican church.

http://www.standrewsnewcastle.org.uk/

I'm not suggesting that the submitter made an error, but it might be worth checking out.

If other children were baptized there, I think it would be a good place to look for your young Riddell.

Good Luck! Judy  ;)
Best wishes, Judy :-))
