Canadian coincidence????
« on: Saturday 05 January 08 14:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

In my tree I have James Wilson, born 1 March 1831 in Glenisla, Scotland - a produce commission agent who married Annie Noble Simpson on 16 January 1866 in the Episcopal Church in Fordyce, Banff.

In 1871 James is registered in the Dundee Directories as a Commission Agent. Working in 9 Exchange Street, while the family was living at 3 Craigie Bank Terrace. Annie's mother is staying with them and the couple employ 2 servants.

Their children were:
Annie Noble Wilson b 1867
James Wilson b 1868
Agnes Eliza Noble Wilson b 11 Jan 1870
Tomina Margareta Wilson b 27 Mar 1871
Caroline Ferguson Wilson b 14 Mar 1872

All the children are born in or near Dundee, Scotland

But I've been unable to find the family after this.

It is possible that they went to Canada, as I found the following entry: 11316-98 ( Oxford Co) James WILSON, 21, bookkeeper, n/a, Tillsonburg, s/o James WILSON & Annie NOBLE SIMPSON, married Lizzie Alice CRAIG, 15, n/a, James CRAIG & Cassie WELCH, witn: Charles MYERS & Eliza SMART of n/a , 25 Feb 1898 at Tillsonburg

Is it possible that this is the son of my couple? I thought the name Noble Simpson might be rare, but you never know and it probably isn't. I also have no longer any idea where the website is that contained this info.

If this is the correct couple, how would I find the parents etc.

I did check the Canadian ships thingy, but you need to know all sorts of details I do not have  :-[- so that was no help to me.

Any advice or help would be much appreciated.  :) :)

1901 and 1911 Canadian census are both available to search online (free) at www.automatedgenealogy.com (be sure to check actual scanned image- follow link from transcribed page). You should be able to get quite a bit of information on the family.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I've been looking at that link, focusing the search on Oxford in Ontario but none of my Wilsons are on there  :'(

Ah well. I'll try some of the other members of the family.

Great link though, thank you very much  ::)

Hi Green

I think James must have gone to Canada by himself because I have found  his mother, Annie M.Wilson, a widow, in London with her daughters in 1891.

Give me a few mins and I will type it up

Hi

Looks like Tomina and Agnes both married in Hackney reg dist Sept qtr 1894 1b 1070  - Tomina to John Bayne Peat and Agnes to Jonathan Prebble.

Both on 1901 but afraid I don't have Ancestry access

This is fantastic. Thank you so much  ;) ;)

I'll go and have a look on Ancestry. No wonder I couldn't find them in Canada then.
