Can this treasured pic be restored ?
« on: Wednesday 09 January 08 09:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone

This treasured pic I received from  my dear Nan

It is of her Uncle Tom and Aunty May playing approx 1901, Uncle Tom is the boy holding the sword in front of the large cartwheel and Aunty May is the young girl with her face scratched out. Nan recalls that Aunty May did not like the photo of herself and scratched her face off. Lets just say I am sure she would have got into big trouble.

I have quite a few old photos in my collection from Nan however this one here is one of my favs.

I would be grateful for any restoration that can be done.

Kind regards

Hi Troods

There are a number of things that could be done to make this restoration easier.

1/   The scan is only 72dpi - increase the resolution to 300 - 600 dpi if possible
2/   The missing face has gone - this cannot be retrieved from this actual photo
3/   If you have an alternative photo of the 'scratched out' person - the face (or any face) can be copied and transposed onto your posted picture.
4/   Do you want the flag to stay or be removed

Hope this helps

Hippy :) :) :)
Please scan all photographs at 300-600 dpi.

Hi Hippy

Okay this is going to sound really dumb but how do I increase resolution to the right dpi. I had a few probs posting the pic, I kept getting told the file was too big.

I do have another photo of the little girl with the scratched out face taken at the same time.

Also and I don't want the flag if possible.

Many thanks for the help
Regards

Hi troods

If you look on the Restoration opening page there a number of 'stickies' (pages that give guidance in doing different actions in restoration).
The seventh one down is one that gives "tutorials and tips" on scannig.

If you try reading trhough those it should help you.
If you are still having difficulty, come back to the board I'm sure that someone will be able to help

Hope this helps

Posting this for troods!

Don't know what it's scanned at, it's still only 120 kb and looks a bit blocky ???

Cheers,
China
