Births in Quebec
« on: Thursday 10 January 08 12:05 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find out the exact birth dates of Thomas b approx 1863 and John b approx 1864 both listed on 1881 census UK as being born in Quebec.  Surname Mitchell, father Thomas mother Margaret nee Kerr - I believe Thomas was in the 17th Regiment.

Any information will be much appreciated, thank you

Unfortunately civil registration of births in Quebec didn't start until recently (have seen the date mentioned here several times but can't remember it exactly).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Parents were married Anglican church. I did not find either son baptised in Anglican church records for Quebec city nor Garrison. Margaret on her marriage is listed as being from Quebec (meaning city), if she hadn't been given as from Quebec, I would have suggested possibly her family's domicile. Could they have been baptised in England, possibly Halifax from whence he hails. It could be a good possibilty. I amazingly discovered my gran born in Scotland had been baptised 6 years later in Quebec.

Hi Linda
Thanks for looking, I suppose it may have to remain an unanswered question like so many others....
