Marriages St Peters Levenshulme - Gallimore Stinchcombe, McGibbon Hartley
« on: Thursday 10 January 08 12:37 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know where marriage registers for St Peters C.E. Church, Levenshulme are held?
They are not in the Manchester Library list of holdings. The marraige I'm after is on Lancashire bmds, but it is the groom's parents I want to check out.

I lived in Leve for 15 years but of course was not interested in family history then...  ::)

Yes - not there  :(.   However I have found an email address for the church itself, so I've made contact &  if I manage to answer my own question, I will post the whereabouts.

Thanks

Hi Barbara

Think that the direct approach is the only way - LRO Preston lists as:

MANCHESTER, Levenshulme, St Peter;  Diocese of Manchester
For original registers enquire at St Andrew’s Rectory, 27 Errwood Road, Manchester M19 2PN

Think it must be a local deanery issue as St Andrew's, Leve is same.

Good luck

I used to live about 100 yards from Errwood Rd, aaargh!! (don't know which smiley to use for aaargh)
I think St Peters & St Andrews churches must share a clergy team.

I have emailed the chap in question via Levenshulme churches website. Hopefully the registers will be there.

Thanks  :)

Thanks Mack

The rev sounds like a busy chap!  Glad to see Leve is such a god-fearing place  ;D  ;D

I'm after marriage of John McGibbon and Margaret Hartley, first quarter 1883 at St Peter's Levenshulme.  Just to see if John is one of mine - don't want to buy certificate in case he is not!

In the 1881 census he is boarding on Barlow Rd Levenshulme, born around 1861, Lennoxtown, which I think is an area of Glasgow.
Same census,  my gt-grandfather David McGibbon is in Newton and David's brother John is in Hulme (they also grew up in Glasgow), but I can't place this one.  I was wondering if he is a cousin of theirs, so father's name and occupation would help.
