Could someone please date this photo thanks

Hi all

If possible could someone please try and date this pic for me. It is off my gggranmother Rosetta Phyllis Hall.
I know she died 1918 and that her husband died in the year 1905. I presume she is wearing black or a dark grey perhaps.
She died when she was 80 years of age.

Hi troods! The dress I might guess at about 1900, 1902 or so...it seems to be a blouse and skirt. The lady has quite an old-fashioned hairstyle, from about the 1870s, common in older women as it is today.

Traditionally, the book she is holding denotes literacy, more telling in decades prior, I suppose.

Thanks to Irene for the great cleanup and China for the dating info.

This particular lady had a very eventful life and lots of kids as well. She even ended up in jail at one stage.
