spoke to dad today, and he was really keen on this idea ! he said he may have some documents somewhere he will have a hunt, and he will also write down everything he can remember - he also told me that my gran's (annie reed) dad was called William (Bill) Reed  - so it looks like the info above is proabably correct - and they named the son after the father maybe?
 - but then this means that the marriage mentined earlier of mary marsh to john reed isnt the right one.
now my mums got keen too !!! wants me to try and trace her line.

ive not ordered any certificates as yet, as im hoping dad may have some !!

The marriage found may well be correct.
People often used different names to their official ones.

hi all !!
i have had a good chat to my dad, and low and behold he has found an old family bible, which dates from 1827!!
its a really good starting point, as it has the names and dob of the couple who owned it, along with their parents names and dob and their chiildren !! one of the children is my gt grandmother.

i have found loads of stuff relating to them on fbmd, but i am stuck on something - and was hoping for some more advice!

im trying to find out who Emma salisbury married, she married in cardiff in dec 1887 , cardiff 11a 516 - is there anyway to find out, or do i need to get the certificate to find out?

On FreeBMD if you search for marriages in Cardiff 11a 516 1887 you get:

Marriages Dec 1887
Chucas    John
JONES    Charles
O'HARE    Winifred
SALISBURY    Emma

The next step is to see if she married John Chucas or Charles Jones. Try looking in census to see if there is a John and Emma Chucas or a John and Emma Jones in 1891 census of the correct age and place of birth.

emma was born in Bampton 1867 - this could be her !!

Seems likely -birth of children fit in with time and place of marriage -I'll see if I can find them in 1901 -Jones in Wales is usually a problem, but with them being born out of Wales it mat be easier
