Robert Armstrong from Scotland

My GT GT Grandfather was a Robert Armstrong born around 1830ish in Canonbie Scotland.

He had 2 illegitimate children with my Gt Gt Grandmother then disappeared off the face of the earth. No death record. I think he emmigrated leaving her behind. - no tears please she did nicely for herself!!!!!!!

I am wondering if this is him found in the 1881 Census

Date of Death:  Jan. 18, 1920

That just may be him and he comes from Dmf originally.

Wonder where I could get more info on him. Especially where in Dumfries he is from and if there are any relatives living. Also when he emmigrated to Canada.

Thank you very much - not 100% sure it is him but certainly he is well in the running - especially as the age is spot on. Getting excited about this find!

on the 1901 census at www.automatedgenealogy.com that Robert states he came to Canada 1853.

Do you know when yours roughly dissappeared?

I see you have "Bell" in your surname list, is it from Robert's side?

Thank you for the help I am most grateful.

He must have disappeared no earlier than 1855 and not later than 1861.

So 1853 is a bit early -however I sometimes  people forget when they did things so wonder if he could have got the years mixed up.

How did you get him on the 1901 Census on the web site without going through all the Armstrongs - I can not seem to use it efficiently. But it appears to be an excellant site.
