Hi Jo,
There are two Cruickshanks buried at Rhynie, Jane and Elsie and three Peter Cruickshanks buried at Clatt.  The Clatt MI's are  unpublished.   The stones at Clatt are:
Stone 42 - Peter CRUICKSHANK    12 Aug 1858
                 Jane            "                12 Apr 1877
                 Peter           "                02 Apr 1888
                 Jessie ANDERSON         03 Oct 1888
                 George CRUICKSHANK  21 Nov 1904

Stone 41 -Jane FORBES                 03 Dec 1850
                 Peter CRUICKSHANK     03 Aug 1857
                 John            "                29 Aug 1877
                 Christian SMITH            11 Oct 1907

If 'your' Jane's name appears on a stone it will be under her maiden name.  This is the custom in Scotland.

Isles, I am glad you gave me the PM....
I would have missed your additions..
great ...Jane forbes is the right Jane...with Peter...so she died 1850....John was their son...and I think Christian was his wife....
thankyou..again....

Could I be so bold as to ask if you could see a George Cruickshank and Elizabeth Dunbar?
maybe from Methlic....this could be in the late 1700's or 1800s
if this is to hard...please don't worry..
regards,
JO

Hi again Jo,
There are  George/Georgie Cruickshank inscriptions at Methlick but both are relatively modern:

Stone 334 -  Georgie CRUICKSHANK      No date given
                     Fanny            "                  08 Apr 1928
                     George          "                  29 Sep 1950
                     Agnes LEASK                     03 Oct 1950
                     Daisy CRUICKSHANK         19 Nov 1973

I could not find an inscription for Elizabeth Dunbar. Let me know if there are any other churchyards in which you think they might be buried.

Isles.

Thanks Isles,
I think that I made an error with Methlic...
I could follow that family now..into the 1800s and they are not the ones...
soooo..Elizabeth Dunbar is the mother of the above Peter..maybe it is near Clatt.

In the 1851c Peter Cruickshank said born 'Sauchen'...on Ancestry....they say "hard to read..."
so maybe that is Strachen.. but not sure.

The inscriptions are in the unpublished section for members only. Photographs are on Findagrave #116035214

I wouldn't have said that Methlick is near Clatt in 18th century terms - 26 miles apart

It might actually even be Sauchen which is nearer than Strachan - 24 miles fom Methlick and 18 miles from Clatt. Best to check the original on SP and make up your own mind.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
