Kilrush Parish Registers (RC) - Mary Ann White
« on: Monday 14 January 08 01:26 GMT (UK) »
Looking for the baptism or birth record of Mary Ann White born Kilrush or environs circa 1834. She was a Roman Catholic.

Arrived to Tasmania on ship "Beulah" in 1851 aged 18.

Have tried contacting St Senan's in Kilrush but had no responses...

With thanks,

Peter J Oakley (Hobart, Tasmania)

Hi Peter

I have had a lot of problems getting information from St Senans, in fact Christopher on this site stepped in and helped me out.  I have since been in contact with them for more information, I spoke on the phone and sent e-mails to no avail, in the end a very kind lady from the US actually went into the church and found the information for me while on holiday in Kilrush.  It seems that St Senans are only too willing to let you go and search yourself but do not have time to do look ups for you.  Wish they would just say that at the outset.  My friend is leaving for Kilrush this week, I will ask her if she would possibly pop in and look it up for you.  Fingers crossed she hasn't already left.  I will mail her tonight and ask if she can do it, will get back to you

There was only one White listed for Kilrush, Co Clare for 1826:-

County Clare Tithe Applotment Books
Occupiers of land in the Parish of Kilrush on 23rd December 1826
John White,   Leadmore, Kilrush, Co Clare.

Wonder could this be Mary Ann's father?

Hi Peter

me again !  I have had a reply from the lady who is going to Kilrush and she says no problem she will go and look for you.  Her name is Kate and she lives in the US, she knew it was for you as she asked me if it was for Peter.  Apparently she had sent you an email telling you she would look it up, but found that she had sent the mail to herself.  Have to admit to doing that myself :-[  So if the information is at St Senans I am sure she will find it.

Hi Carol,

Would be great if Kate could do that lookup at St Senans. What a great community of people around the globe doing things like this. Really gladens the heart.

I also had one lady in Qld who had the LDS microfilm for Killmurry-Ibricken out do a quick lookup for me amongst those records and there were a couple of Mary Whites baptised in 1836-38 period there.

That confuses things a bit because it would appear that my Mary White was possibly an orphan from the Kilrush Union workhouse as a result of the famine or the forced evictions in that time. If thats the case she may have come from a parish anywhere in the radius of the Kilrush Union.

Worst still is the records for admissions to that union workhouse did not survive, So determining which Mary White is my Mary White may prove impossible. I have no evidence or references at all to who her parents might have been.

Cheers,

Peter

Hi Peter

I will pass this information on to Kate, she leaves for Ireland on Easter Sunday and returns 31 March, she is quite happy to search for you.  Hope she can find something for you, it would be great.

Dear Carol

I hope I am not too late in posting this and please forgive me for being cheeky in asking, but I would be so grateful if you could ask your friend to do a look up for me, as I have not received a reply from St Senans myself.

They are my gggg grandparents Simon and Johanna Mangan, Simon being born in
county Clare in 1838, and Johanna around the same time.  Any info about them would be very much appreciated.

I hope I am not too late but wish to thank you in advance anyway.

Kind regards
