Open Office
« on: Wednesday 16 January 08 12:06 GMT (UK) »
I have just started to use 'Open Office'.  Wanting to write up something I saw 'backgrounds' and clicked on it and chose a fancy background.  All's well, it printed out very nicely.

But now I cannot get rid of the long box of tiles (from which to choose what background you want) which intrudes on my work space every time I open up.   I cannot see how to close it down and get rid of it.

Can anyone help me with this - it's probably simple but I cannot do it.

Regards, Abiam

Try clicking on View and deselect the particular Toolbox you want to get rid of.

I've looked at View but there are no tool boxes to choose from!

Found it!!! It's under Tools and then click on The Gallery!

Thanks, you made me look a bit further,
Abiam

How are you getting on with Open Office? how does it compare to Microsofts offering?

Hi,

I hadn't clicked on "notify me please" so I didn't get your post.

I like it.  And finding it better than Word.  Like lots of us I was never trained for

typing and certainly not computers so what knowledge I have is self taught.

And I do have problems but they are usually user fault not program fault!

One really good thing I have found is putting work into PDF to email - and it's

so simple.

Still having a few problems putting pictures where I want them and keeping

them there - but again that's probably me!,

Try it you've nothing to lose,

Regards,
Abiam
