William Dopson C.1886 D. 1917 Egypt
« on: Wednesday 16 January 08 19:25 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I have come across another family member who was in WW1.   This is the

history I have:

He was in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers the 25th Battalion. He was born at

Hungerford in approximately 1886 and enlisted at Newtown Mont. and was

living at Rhondda Glamorgan.  His rank was Private and his number 355769

and he died 30 November 1917.  Killed in Action in Egypt.  He was formerly of

the Welsh horse ? Fusiliers, Brigade?

I would be very interested in any further information,

Thank you, Abiam

Hi Abiam  ;)

I expect you have seen him on the CWGC site, which tells you he is commemorated in Jersalem.

Judy,

Thank you I did look at the CWGC site but couldn't find him.  Now I have extra

details and a photograph of the memorial.

Barabara and Ady,

Thank you both for the census and the Medal card.  Is it likely that by buying

the medal card it will say any more than just Egypt?  I am hopeful that

it will tell me more of what was happening there.

Thank you all again,
Abiam

Abiam
Medal Cards are a lottery some of the earlier enlistment dates give more info such as date of entry to theatre and other stuff some just list his medals and nothing else....I suspect with a number like 766 it seems to be an early volunteer TheWelsh Horse  and another Welsh Regiment amalgamated in March 17 to form 25th RWF.

Also if you post on Soldiers on the Great War Forum there are a number of RWF experts who you may glean more info.
