West High Street
« on: Thursday 17 January 08 01:29 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know where I might locate archival photos of West High Street in Kirkintilloch particularly around #s 12, 16 and 61?

Janet Dennistoun and James Bulloch resided on this street after their marriage in 1840. On the censuses from 1861 - 1881, James is listed as a grocer and living at either 12 or 16 West High Street.

Their children Isabella, Jessie and James Dennistoun continued with the grocery business and lived at 16 West High until Isabella's death in 1912.  After that I'm not sure if Jessie or James continued with the business.  They eventually retired in Perthshire.

Also, Janet had three sister, Elizabeth, Marrion and Mary Dennistoun who were dressmakers and lived at 61 West High street.

I would appreciate any help.

some cracking old pictures of Kirkintilloch at this site

http://www.kirkintillochphotolibrary.co.uk/

there are a few of West High Street there but I can't see the building numbers you ask for.
have a look at the very last picture 'victorian' and photos 165, 238, 48, and 148.

there is still a building at 16 West High Street but I wouldn't know if that was the original building.
