Bury Parish Registers
« on: Sunday 20 January 08 00:13 GMT (UK) »
I'm planning a visit to Bury Archives and wondered how many parishes there are to search so I have an idea where to start looking.

Secondly, as I'm looking for the surname Taylor was also wondering if anyone else has been researching the name and like me notes down all instances of the surname being searched.

So if anyone has come across any births to a Joseph Taylor, a Joiner and Loom maker, around the 1820's I would be very greatful.

Kind regards
Dave Taylor

Hi Dave
GENUKI is a good place to start, follow this link, then search for Bury Lancashire and it should bring up a list of churches

Thanks for the advice.

There are too many churches so haven't a clue which one to start with.

Dave

Hi Dave

If you go to the reference library they have loads of church registers transcribed......
do you know of the area in bury where he lived at all?

What year was he born.....if you can find him on the census's you may be able to narrow the search for the church.....

If you go to the reference library on a Thursday morning there's a chap called John Grundy who offers help with research, he's done some for me, I have his e-mail address if your interested

Thanks for the Replies.

The main man I'm researching is Thomas Taylor born 1823 / 24 to Joseph and Betty.  Joseph was a joiner.  In 1818 he was in Clerke St.  1841 to 1871 Bell Lane.  1881 Walmersley Rd. 1891 Baptist place.

I think Joseph may have been married twice, only by going off the IGI marrying 1818.  He was born 1776 so he was getting on a bit when  son Thomas was born.

If / when I get to Bury I would have to trawl through every Taylor to find anything with Joseph in.  That means going through all parishes.  Just need a good place to start and work outwards.

Kind regards

Dave

Hi Dave

If he was living ing the Bell Lane Area.....it could be BMD's would have been either at St Pauls, as this was on St Pauls Street, Bury..
very near to Bell Lane or the Parish Church in the centre of Bury also known as St Mary the Virgin.......

This is taking it he was C of E.....

Genuki have details of both the above churches.....plus photo's

Bury Library have transcripts for St Pauls......and probably St Mary
