William Brown - photographer -Paisley

Has anyone heard of a photographer called William Brown who worked in Paisley, probably early 20th/late 19th century? Trying to find out when exactly he worked.

Says a William Brown,  Photographer took a photo taken after Dec 5,  1880 ..........and he once won first prize by the Glasgow Photographic Association......... His studio was at 9 Gilmour Street, Paisley

Looks like he may have been born 1837 - Have him on the 1881 Census I think - if you want that?

thanks.  I have a photo taken by him. Was trying to narrow down the date a bit.

Always in Paisley - he was listed as a Photographer in 1871  and was still alive and working as one in  1901.  One of his sons became a Photographer too.- so the name of the Studio very possibly continued on in his name  after William did eventually die.

I think they did continue and there is still a Browns photographers today tho if same family cannot say as I left Paisley in mid 1980s! But at that point they were still around

An old thread to come across at an opportune time. I have one of his pictures. It is framed and signed. I will scan and post it here. It was in my uncles photos. It is of my family on the holy isle off of Arran. Kind of beat up as you would expect nut I suspect it is at least 125 yrs old

Just came across this .... he was my Great Great Grandfather.
