Old Dalbeth Cemetery, Tollcross , Glasgow
« on: Tuesday 29 January 08 19:25 GMT (UK) »
 Hi Everyone,

Was wondering if anyone ha any info on The Old Dalbeth Cemetery (also called St. Peters ) in Glasgow.

I have a relative that is buried there. His info that i have on him is :

Peter Farrell   b. ? Ireland  d. 14 Apr 1886 in Anderston, Burgh of Glasgow.

Burial - Dalbeth RC Cemetery
Crypt # 108 , single layer, east side.
Certificate # 673
Date of Puchase - 13 Jun 1863 witness, William Gimour, superintendent of cemetery.

I don't really know what  the Certificate # means. Or why he purchased a burial plot 20 years before he died. My only thinking is that his mother might be buried in the same cemetery because she died in Winter 1861.

Her info is

Ann Flood , formally Farrell , nee Devlin  b. ?  d. 25 Nov 1861 in Clyde,Glasgow

She had married a Luke Flood in Glasgow on 10 Oct 1852.

I don't know what name she would be buried under ?

Does anyone know of this Cemetery or live near it ? I would appreciate any help in finding anything out, especially what might be on the tombstone , if there still is one.

Thank you,

Monica,

Thank you for supplying that link. I read through all the posts and it seems my relative was probably buried in the Old Dalbeth Cemetery. It also seems that it has seen better days.

I might not be able to get info off a headstone because the posts said that about only 25-30 are still intact. I thank you very much for the help.

And I will post that If anyone lives near this cemetery if they could keep the name Farrell in mind I would appreciate it Crypt #108, Peter Farrell.

I live in NJ USA, and aren't able to get to Scotland. Only in my dreams !!

I am related to Peter Farrell who was related to Ann.  He was married to Mary McPoland who was my ancestor. There are members of the Farrell family who are related to him living in New Jersey.  North Allerton (forgive the spelling). There is a family tree on Ancestry UK, showing the Farrell family tree.

Ann was married to my great, great grand father, Patrick Farrell.  He was her first wife and when he died, she married Luke Flood.  Ann was born in Ireland in 1817 as far as I know.  Her parents were Terence Flood and Sarah Cullin.

My name is Barry Lowe and I live in Ellesmere Port in England, Nr Liverpool.

Hi Mr Lowe,
Can you tell us how you are related to Peter Farrell and Mary McPoland? The family you mention in NJ (North Arlington) would be my line. There is another descendant on this chat forum who may also respond to you, Gerry Farrell.
It will be interesting to see how your family line fits in. The family trees you see on ancestry would be both Gerry and my family lines.
Patrick Farrell md. Ann Devlin in Co Down. Ann Devlin’s parents are Terrance Devlin and Sarah Cull. The Flood surname comes from Ann Devlin Farrell’s second marriage to Luke Flood in Glasgow.

manda_mc,
I’m not sure why you reposted my original post. Can you explain? That post is from 2008. We have learned a lot about this family since then. Do you have a question about this family?
