Hey, Karen,...our Willy Wood's adoptive mum was married to a Willis   :P

Anyone see brothers Ezra, Ernest or Thomas anywhere, or are you still looking for more on them, Sue?

Doubt if it is Gravis...think someone needs to chack the actual image...
It might be gratis...but that dooesn't really make a lot of sense either...

Can anyone check the actual image?  :)  J.J.

Hi,

Looking at the image, especially the word spinster with the i and n next to each other I think it says Grainsampler.

A sampler, aka warehouse sampler, sampleman, examined the delivery of goods at the warehouse to ensure that they were in accordance with specification, and priced goods where the quality varied on behalf of the factor or merchant, he also prepared samples for prospective purchasers. Samplers were often specifically designated e.g. grain, corn, cotton, wool, etc.

NEW INFORMATION regarding Gwendoline Willis completed Feb 2008
« Reply #25 on: Monday 06 April 15 18:48 BST (UK) »
Hello all, I came across the conversation in February of 2008 Sue had with jamajo, arose, jamago, and lemonMaillie recently.  A woman named Sue was looking for information about her Grandmother Gwendoline Elise Willis.  I am the grandson of Gwendoline. I am the son of the 'Ted' in the picture with Edgar Lloyd in Vancouver that Sue speaks of in her dialogue.  Its been 7 years but i hope someone can help me out.  didn't know i might have some relatives.  thought i was the last of the family.
Sincerely Yours,
EJ (Ted)

I have p.m'd Sue in case notification has been turned of when the site gets busy! Hope all is well as she's not been active for a wee bit now...

Welcome EJWMR...You can have some fun one day and search for your ancestor in 1911... http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/  although I do fear the pages he is on might be hard to read and so not transcribed properly

The relationship for Sue is: Her grandmother was stepsister to Edgar... :D

1921 census has the couple at 264 W Amelia St Fort William Ontario . He is still a sampler and they now have one daughter Eve age 1. He states immigration 1901 and she says 1910.
Image is free to view, for canada, just sign up!

Having looked back into the 1901 census I noted he was a domestic, which I now know only means working for the household in some capacity... I now realize he was a farm labourer, and may have come over under one of the farm schemes of the era. ( if this was he? Appears to be as date of birth matches up)

I also saw Geniecolgan on the list of replies and had a wee tear for "the other jeany' as we jokingly each called the other... :'(

Hello to you all and hope you had a Happy Easter weekend!!!
