That's the only census entry that remotely matches...have tried lots of different spellings...Nothing on the 1911, either...Might he have gone to the U.S for a time...Didn't see him in Manitoba ( If that was he in 1901) but had thought Alberta to be the next natural progression...no luck ...and tried all of Canada...)
There is only one listed in the time period on  http://www.findmypast.com
so this is likely the right one as it says immigrated 1899....

Hi Sue,

I checked Gwendoline's death record and she was born in Abergavenny, Wales on 9 Mar 1897.  Father was William Morgan and mother, Gwendoline Lewis.  Her son Edgar was the informant.  The more recent death registrations don't list how long the person has been in Canada.  I also checked for an obituary but couldn't find one.

But I did a quick check for her on Ancestry.ca and found Gwen & Edgar's marriage record - I don't have a subscription so perhaps another rootschatter can have a look.  They married in Ontario, the record is between 1857 and 1924, and her name is listed as Gwendoline Elise Morgan.  Husband is correctly transcribed as Edgar Lloyd Willis.  So I think that answers the question of where he spent his early years in Canada.

I poked around a bit for Gwendoline, mainly cause my Nan was also from Abergavenny!  I searched for her on the 1901 Census and it looks like there is a match in Monmouthshire.  Parents were married in Crickhowell in 1891. There may also be a match on the findmypast passenger lists under Gwendolive Morgan in 1921 and a possible border crossing, again on Ancestry.ca, for an Ethel Gwendoline Morgan.  There are a few records for James Edgar Willis on Ancestry.ca in Ontario, his son perhaps??

Hopefully someone with a subscription can do a few lookups and fill in some more details.

Oh, won't Sue be happy!
Whatever did we do without all the help we now have in Canada?
We certainly never solved them this quickly before...What a crew...
