and in the last seconds of the match, Anderson springs in with a classic move livening up the action in a game the crowd thought was almost over......

I was going to say are there any MIs -  after I'd finished my supper  - and find that Anne has come in while I was eating - good on ya Anne  :D

So John was born circa 1770 1780 and must be on the 1851 census - Dave - you could check this out as I'm going into retirement soon  :)

Well, well, well,

Seems there were Parlanes in Buchlyvie as well.

1. (Low Table Stone by north east corner of the church)
William Parlane Senr. died in Garden 1819 age 68
Duncan Parlane
Daughter Janet Parlane died 4th March 1862 age 70

2. (Low Table Stone next to No. 1 above)
Duncan Parlane, Farmer in Garden
His wife Janet Risk died 30th June 1829 age 68
Their son James died 24th April 1835? age 68
Their daughter? Jane died 2nd May 1876 (wife of Gilbert Christie, farmer in Ashintree)

3. (Flat Stone next to No. 2 above)
Duncan Parlane, late farmer in Garden died 10th December 1823 age 73
His eldest son William, and sixth successor in said farm, died 9th? December 1839 aged 32 (or 52)

4.
William Parlane died 19th December 1791 age 67
His grandson Edward died 6th June 1826 age 25

5. (Next to hedge and No. 4 above) Very soft red stone
........ Parlane,   son ....... March 1809 age 17

6. (Grey granite)
John Parlane died 26th January 1944 age 78
His wife Maggie Galloway More died at *Easter Offerance, 4th February 1915 age 34
Uncle George Morrison died 17th September 1920 age 94

*I think Easter Offerance must have been a farm. There are several other MI's all for McEwens which say "Farmer, Offrance/Offerance".

One of them mentions a Margaret Risk, wife of John MacEwen, Offrance so maybe the relationship was through the Risks, Janet being the wife of Duncan Parlane (No. 2 above)

Unfortunately, I haven't got photos of any of these stones so I don't know if they're still there and if they are, if the inscriptions are still legible.  These MI's were done in the 1960's - anything could have happened since then!

Anne

No trace of a John Parlane of the correct age in the 51 census .
On the off chance I searched for just J Parlane.

There is one recorded as James Parlan (I've attached the bit of the image so you can see how it can easily be mis transcribed)

The full details are:
house: Third
xxxxx - obscure Parlan Head Wid 70 Stirling Gargunnock
James son U 37 farmer of 80 acres Stirling Buchlyvie    (Anne - on the MI's where it says offrance or offerance, I wonder if that has been mis-transcribed too and actually read "of xx acres"?)
Robert son U 27 Stirling Buchlyvie

I've gone back to the 1841 census and searched for J Parl* age 50 to 70.  There are only 2 entries, both in Glasgow, both aged 50, 1 John, 1 James.

I don't think so Dave.

I keyed in 'offerance, kippen' into Google and there's loads of hits.  Definately the name of a farm.

Anne.

P.S. Just a thought - Did you try Farlan(e)?  A 'P' could quite easily be mistranscribed as an 'F'?

Tracey did say that they lived at Third though and from the image that Dave has put up, it looks like Mrs P - so maybe the MI is wrongly dated - I have some like that in my family - I had to confirm from other sources. Sometimes the stonemason/engraver got it wrong - could it have been 1832 - that would take it back to something more like the ones that we found earlier  :-\

No, didn't try Farlane but have now.  None in Stirling. One John Farlane in Perth aged 50.  Doubt very much that's him.

I did the same google search as you and agree Offerance is a farm name.

As a matter of interest, here's another bit of that census with the occupations - there are 4 entries where the occupation is "farmer of xx acres" - you can maybe see where I was coming from.

------------------------------------------------------

I'm getting kind of lost with this one again and need to step back for a while to get my head round it all again.

A 'wee sherry' is called for methinks!  ;)

, it looks like Mrs P -

Now that you mention it Gadget, on looking at that image again, it does look as though it was James, then heavily written over with Mrs.

Well, given that it says 'born Gargunnock' , it must be our Jean, who was down as a widow. So the MI is wrong as I said in the previous posting. It happened more often than one thinks.
