Robert Britton born 1803 Parish of Hoo Suffolk Completed
« on: Monday 11 February 08 07:12 GMT (UK) »
Earliest listing I have is marriage to Charlotte Smith 23 October 1927 Easton by Framlingham Suffolk.
Next is 1841 Census  at Green, Parish of Hoo Suffolk listed as 'Brittain' with wife Charlotte and 4 children.
Also listed in 1851 and 1861 census still in Hoo Suffolk and still seemingly in agriculture, variously Listed as labourer, farm labourer and Ag labourer.

It is interesting to note that over the course of those various listings he is shown as being born in Hoo, Letheringham and Melton. The latter was in 1861 but the 1851, 1871 and 1881 censuses (is their such a word?) show him as Letheringhamham which is just a few miles from Hoo.

In the 1891 census he appears to have departed this earth as his widow the 82 year old Charlotte Britton is "living on her own means" with her grandson Robert Britton (Jnr) 11 years old and working as a "Agricultural labourer" A fairly grand address too, The Bricles Hoo Suffolk. She is recorded as dying at the grand old  age of 86 in 1897.

My question is.
His actual date of birth and parents name.

His date and place of death I assume it will be in Hoo and the date somewere between 1881 and 1891.

I would also be interested to know why Robert Jnr was living with his Nana and not his Mum Harriot Britton, this may well be because his mother has had to go elsewere to find work she is listed with him in 1881 as an unmarried Cook, domestic servant (unemployed)

I see Plomsgate is about 16 miles from Suffolk. Is it likely that he actually died there or was that were the registration would have been for deaths. I imagine what is a 15 minute trip today would have been a lot longer in 1882!

Plomesgate is in Suffolk and was the registration district covering Hoo and other parishes until 1935. If you look up the reference on FreeBmd
www.FreeBmd.org.uk

and click on Plomesgate, there is a list of the places covered.
