Christopher Wilson born Hedon, 1801
« on: Wednesday 13 February 08 09:16 GMT (UK) »
Not having any luck finding  baptism for my 3rd great grandfather; Christopher Wilson.

All census links indicate that he was born in Hedon, nr Hull and the marriage states that his father was  Henry Wilson.

We have found 2 poss siblings in Hedon records:  Robert and John - sons of Henry/Jane Wilson

Can anyone help?

I had a look through the Hedon baptisms at the Record Office this morning - but couldn't find a Christopher Wilson.

Did you get the Hedon connection from the IGI entry? I note that there's a whole series of Wilson entries submitted by a member of the LDS church - as opposed to the IGIs which are actual transcriptions of the registers.

I think these may be less than reliable - as I said, I didn't find Christopher's baptism, and the John Wilson I found baptised in Hedon Sep 6 1791 was actually the son of 'Henry Wilson, cordwainer and his wife Mary' - not Jane as the submitted IGI would have it!

Does Christopher give Hedon as his birthplace on all censuses? I suppose it's possible that he was baptised in a nearby parish - or even at a nonconformist establishment.

 BATHSHEBA BOOTHROYD bn c. 1802 W. Yorks.

Baptism nowhere to be found. Possibly in a nonconformist church near ALMONDBURY or HUDDERSFIELD.

ty for looking
yes, his birthplace is consistently given as Hedon, Hull from 1851 onwards when he was livin in Louth
Interestingly, I haven't found him for the 1841 census though I know he was in Louth since a child was born 1841. But that wouldn't help, as his place of birth would only be given as Yorkshire!!

Very frustrating - he's eluded me for more than 20 years so far!

Any more ideas?
