Uniform Identification please

This is a picture of my grandfather Arthur Frederick Hambling he was a Lighthouse Keeper. I know this isn't a Trinity House uniform. The photo would have been taken in the 30's or 40's, the mystery is at that time he was still working as a Lighthouse keeper stationed at Anvil Point near Swanage. I know the house in fact the house is still there. If it's any help the house is between Musbury and Axmouth in Devon. I’ve been told it’s an army uniform. According to relatives he wasn’t in the army besides he would have been exempt if working for Trinity House.

I could be wrong - but your grandfather wouldn't have been in the Home Guard during World War II would he?

This could be the badge on the cap.

That's the only thing I can think of. I always think of Dads Army. The reason I mentioned Musbury and Axmouth is I wondered if anyone from there might know of the existance of the Home Guard. There are a few from Axminster on this site which isn't that far away.

Hi oh...you should post this on the Armed Forces board, or at least a link to this pic here...they are much better at uniforms than the photo restore people...you will have to change the filename of the photo slightly...adding a number or letter will do.

Yes I think it would be the Home Guard that would tie in with his work with Trinity House at that time he was Principal keeper at Anvil Point, this i know as I have his Trinity House service record. 

Wow that is amassing. As I said in my post I know the house and it's still there. The brick colour and walls are spot on the whole picture in colour looks so much alive.  I use Photoshop for cleaning up photos. Do you use the same program? if not what? or would that be giving away to much.
