I just can't make out what this occupation is from the parish records for a marriage in 1890.

It is almost certainly R.N. - not too sure about the Captain or Catipian though  ??? ........... I'll keep looking.

Yes I think it must be artificer even though the first letter looks more like a C. The whole record was written in a very cramped style and very difficult to read.
