HELP please,

I am quite certain that Cyril, born in 1893 arrived on Ellis Island in 1912 aged 19. He gives his residence as Kingston, Ireland and I have found a Kingston in Co. Wicklow. I couldn't find Kingston on the Rootschat Ireland/Wicklow site. He came back to England at some time as he married here.

Any ideas please.

Don't understand what you mean by this:
...I have found a Kingston in Co. Wicklow. I couldn't find Kingston on the Rootschat Ireland/Wicklow site.

Kingstown is now called Dun Laoghaire.

Thank you for responding aghadowey,

The age old problem of communications, I knew just what I meant.  I shall try again.

In the Ellis Ireland records for 1912, Cyril, (that's the Cyril in the heading) is recorded as coming from Kingston, Ireland. I went to Google Maps and entered Kingston, Ireland and up came a town sitting on a minor road running between Rathdrum and The Meetings, parallel and between the Railway running from Wicklow to Arklow on the right and the major road on the left. All three run north/South. No other Kingston was indicated and the spelling on Ellis Island and Google are as I have spelt it, not as Kingstown

I then went to Ireland/Wicklow in Rootschat and in the heading I found the following names starting with a K

Kilbride (Arklow), Kilbride (Talbotstown), Kilcommon , (Arklow), Kilcommon (Ballinacor), Kilcoole, Killahurler, Killiskey, Kilmacanoge, Kilpipe, Kilpoole, Kilranelagh, Kiltegan, Knockrath.

As I said, I can't find a Kingston in that list. I hope the above is clearer

If you can offer an explanation for the added w in Kingstown or whether I'm on the wrong track I should be grateful for any advice. Also are there any census records surviving for Kingston and where should I look.

Many thanks

David

Understand now what you meant but the names listed under each county are the names of parishes not townlands (if it was townlands the list would be incredibly long.
See www.thecore.com/seanruad to find townlands and parishes in Ireland (be sure to change default setting from exact match to search part of a word like 'King').

The problem with Cyril's address in Ireland is easily solved. Ellis Island has transcribed it as Kingston but the actual manifest says Kingstown and nearest relative is his mother living in Weston, Enniskerry which is more likely to be helpful (Enniskerry is slightly west of Bray). Other details will be on 2nd page of manifest.

What a fantastic surprise.  :D

Thank you LH. your find is very much appreciated and will help me to re-open the file. The person I was doing the research for had asked me not to "waste" anymore time, as her elder relatives were slow in coming up with any info but you have opened up a new lead.

Many thanks again.
