Cloth Worker

Is there an occupation of Spiler  or Spiter (could be ar at end)  in a Cloth Factory?  Doing some transcriptions & the word keeps appearing.

Thanks HB - I have seen Splicer elsewhere and I don't think it is the word I have here - I'm working from a fiche so can't show any images. I'll have another look at a couple with Splicer in mind.  I also noticed Spliter in a list of occupations (recently posted on RootsChat) so need to check that too.

Happy to help.  It was quite interesting looking up the other odd-sounding occupations as none of my lot worked in that kind of industry, particularly liked the quilley winder  ;D

My census piece is from Wiltshire. Seem to be lots of cloth factory workers. For transcription reasons, the folks who said "Cloth Worker" are my favorites. For interest 100 years later the various different occupations are, as you mentioned, very interesting.

Anyone still folling this old roots post?
It could be "Splitter", someone who cuts fabric into lengths with a machine or cutting shears.
