The Licensing Act of 1872 made it compulsory for registers of licences granted annually at the Petty Sessions (or Brewster Sessions) to be kept. Licensing registers record details about the licensee, the owner, the pub’s location, and licence transfers.

Sorry i have no experience of the information contained in licence records after they became the responsibility of County Councils in 1888.
