During the Irish Rebellion in the seventeenth century many of the rebels refused to bury the corpses of their murdered victims. This resulted in a pestilential fever which occurred in many places.

A few examples of the estimated deaths are ...
6,000 in Coleraine in four months
2,000 in Carrickfergus
2,500 in Belfast
2000+ in Malone
Similar numbers died in other places.
