J. B. & S. Lees, Carpenters, West Bromwich
« on: Tuesday 11 January 05 19:42 GMT (UK) »
I have a works photograph, taken approximately 1904 of J. B. & S. Lees, Carpenters of West Bromwich. My grandfather, James Foley and his soon to become brother-in-law Antony webb, later known as 'Uncle Ant' are pictured on it.

Anyone have any information, any leads at all on this company please

Best Wishes
David Foley

I believe that it was a company producing steel strip ( a rolling mill ) situated somewhere towards Oldbury and Smethwick.  My father worked for them in the late 50's and early 60's in the test lab.
Don't know if that helps

David,

I may be able to give you some information as I worked at
J.B. & S. Lees in the early sixties, at that time they had recently been purchased by an American group(I'm afraid I don't know who) later in the eighties they were owned by the U.K. group of
Glynwed. At the moment they are owned by the Tyco group.

They produce steel coil and strip as well as spring and tool steel (West Bromwich was well known for its number of spring manufacturers). The company trade name is Trident
Brand.

The factory is halfway between West Bromwich and Oldbury and is split in two halves, one each side of a canal.
The full address is: J.B. & S. Lees Ltd
                               Trident Steel Works
                               West Bromwich
                               West Midlands
                               England

          I hope this may help.

                    All the best

                        Peter

To expand a little on the information Peter has provided above, the company is no longer owned by Tyco - is was bought out by Caparo a couple of months ago. I work at a sister company of JB & S Lees and am in contact with people there on a daily basis... if you have any questions I will try my best to get them answered for you.
